I was able to produce a 12-program television series for the Baton Rouge Society of St. Vincent de Paul because of all the wonderful research the Vincenitans are doing! Here's the post:

”Beacons of Light” programs - the link is to my personal (private) online storage site, where I uploaded the 1st 4 programs. http://bit.ly/b0AwPt

”Beacons” will air nationally as part of Boston CatholicTV network’s fall lineup, which starts after Labor Day. I would encourage you to check our their website as they are planning to post all the programs online! (They have an award-winning website, so this is exciting news.)

Many of these are out of print or hard to get and you can save them as pdfs for future reference. You can also view them as text files and use google translate to get a very rough idea of the things that are in french.

They gratiously let me use their library and I was able to study the work that Fr. Jarry did on Emmanuel Bailly. It was very instructive and I will add the information to my article on the SVdP founders on FamVin. I may soon do a stand alone article on Bailly.

Father Maloney did an excellent comparison at last week's meetings in Belleville that compared Vincent to our modern day work on sewveral topics.. If we could do something like that for Ozanam it would help connect our membership more with our mission.
WE (SVDP) do not put enough emphaisis on the other founders. This research would really help in that regard.

The first of the two videos I have seen were indeed magnificent both in production values and in their insights into the work and spirituality of the SVDP.
Perhaps you could share with this group links so that they might appreciate what you have done.
I suspect many of this group will be in NOLA for the meeting. Unfortunately I can not be there.

PS Ron Ramson CM is now registered on the VirtualVins site and I think he will be joining the group sometime this week as soon as we can reconnect.

Ralph Middlecamp posted an update in the group Research on Ozanam and SVdP Founders: I am working on some of the prehistory of the Society for my New Orleans talk. In Gerard Cholvy's book "Frederic Ozanam, L'engagement d'un intellectuel catholique au XIX siecle" there is this quote on page 240 -

I have a couple of questions - Fr. Ron you may be of some help.

I had known that Alphonse, who later would be ordained a priest, knew Emannuel Bailly and was a member of the Society of Good Works. What I did not know was that he was in Paris studying medicine. Cholvy is one of the best Ozanam scholars so I assume it is correct Does this match what anyone else has seen? The quote also seems to indicate a tension between him and his father the doctor. Does anyone know more about this? Could this have contributed to Frederic's obvious concern to please his father, especially in the matter of his vocation?
